The Water-Resistant Gouache

Bright opaque colors

Gouache is an opaque medium that dries to a lovely, matte, velvety finish. Its excellent reproductive qualities make it the favored medium of illustrators, comic artists, animators, and designers. Gouache provides intense, bright, matte, opaque colors that dry flat with a velvety surface, are easy to work with, blend well, and are easy to photograph and reproduce. Traditional gouache does not dry into a water-resistant film.

Water-resistance

On the other hand, Acrylic gouache presents a distinct set of attributes. It dries to form a thin, velvety, matte, long-lasting, and water-resistant surface, which is a sharp departure from traditional gouache. This is attributed to its usage of acrylic emulsion as a binding agent, in contrast to the gum Arabic employed in conventional gouache. Another notable distinction is that acrylic gouache does not rehydrate upon contact with water, thus preventing color lifting, smudging, or bleeding during subsequent painting.

Excellent Adhesion

Since Acrylic gouache contains acrylic emulsion as its binder, it has exceptional adhesion properties, making it adhere well to wood, metal, and glass surfaces.

Focus Acrylic Gouache

Varnish is recommended

It's important to note that traditional and acrylic gouaches may be prone to cracking due to filler content. To protect against flaking and cracking, it's best to varnish the artwork for an extra protective layer.
